A quick history lesson

cocoa pod

From the Aztec Emperors drinking fiery ‘Chocolatl’ to Londoners munching on smooth Dairy Milk bars, cocoa and chocolate have been the ingredients behind scrumptious treats throughout history. Cadbury has played a lead role in the development of the creamy, sweet chocolate bars we have today and has kept a hold of that innovative spirit in everything we do.

John Cadbury and his sons weren’t just revolutionary when it came to products, they were workforce pioneers. The Cadbury family have always striven to look after their staff; they were pioneers of social housing, new ways of working and employee welfare programmes. Giving their co-workers a sense of community was so important to the Cadbury founders that in the 1870s they even moved their factory to the country where there was space for their employees to congregate and settle. This homely site was named Bournville (sound familiar?!) and it still churns out millions upon millions of yummy Cadbury Chocolate bars today!

This sense of social responsibility at Cadbury is behind the first mass market chocolate to gain certification from the Fairtrade Foundation. Which Cadbury product are we talking about? The UK’s most popular chocolate bar; Dairy Milk! Cadbury’s commitment triples volumes of Fairtrade cocoa from Ghana, opening up new opportunities for thousands of growers while Dairy Milk eaters still get the same irresistible taste and at the same appetizing price!
