Positive News for North East Science Jobs
Wed 12 Aug 2009
In research recently published on recruitment in the North East, over a quarter of respondents are planning to recruit within the next 9 months. This is positive news for regional UK scientists in the current economic climate.
In the survery undertaken by science recruitment specialists SRG on permanent recruitment trends in the North East, 99% of respondents have actively recruited within the last 12 months, owth over 10% of those respondents having recruited 30+ staff. The most positive aspect of this is that February, May and June 2009 have been the most productive months, showing an ipward trend in activity.
Demand for skills in the coming year will be spread throughout the scientific disciplines, however permanent engineers with a development background and also chemists will be most sought after over the coming year with 42.8% of respondents continuing to work with specialist consultancies such as SRG to manage their technical recruitment for them.
46.2% of respondents state that the recession has not affected their recruitment plans although delays to recruitment approval was a current issue for 13.5% of respondents, while 7.7% indicated an increase in their recruitment levels.
Bruce Swan, Commercial Manager for SRG, commented, "The results of the survey confirm what we have experienced in the last 12 months. There is still a steady demand for most skill sets within the North East region and we expect this trend to continue."
